Hispanic Beauty
Hispanic Beauty is a digital image that was inspired mainly by my parents past. They were both born and raised in Mexico, but from two different areas- with about 6-8 other siblings in one household of about 2 bedrooms. At the age of 12 or younger both of my parents had to stop getting an education because there was not enough income coming into their household. This meant they had to become farm workers and/or get another labor job to help provide for their siblings and parents. Both of my parents like many other parents crossed the border illegally trying to get to the United States for “a better life”. My father came to the U.S. around the age of 18 alone with hardly any money or clothes. My mother came around the same age with her siblings. They believed that coming over here would allow them to have a better job that would pay a higher salary that would allow them to provide a better lifestyle for their future children. They’ve had it pretty rough at a very young age and that is why this piece means represents my heritage and represents them.
The agave plant you see is a reminder of their past when farm working and a small representation of their childhood home back in Mexico. The roses symbolize their love and fidelity to one another and us- their children. As well as their hard work in giving us (their children) a chance at a better life. The bright colors represent the warmth and lively culture that my heritage. brings to us and everyone that accepts it. The image of myself in the middle is a symbolism of hispanic women empowerment. Meaning, they taught me how to fight and never give up on anything that I set my mind to. This image of myself is a reminder that I stand strong and proud to be hispanic and I will accomplish anything I set my mind to.
